Yeah, well, I want to learn to play Magic. No, not magic tricks, no. Magic: The Gathering, no less!

Wait, what? What do you mean why I’m doing this on a website? Like every respectable nerd does, if you’re trying to learn something you need to create a nice new website so that the whole world can relate to your efforts, and success… or failures.

Well, I have been told that the first thing I need is a deck… and some rules. Good thing is I know where to find these, bad news is I really would like to find an easy guide or something.

Hi, Gawdess! I got to your site through your profile link at ManabaseCrafter, where you were the very first person (other than I, the guy who runs the site) who signed up as a “Featured Member”. So, first, welcome — to both the site and the game.

It’s a lot of fun. I’ve been playing since a few months after it came out in 1993, and still love it. It teaches lessons about computer science, economics, game theory, and more, while at the same time having great art and being tons of fun.

As for “art”, I see you have the artwork from Iona, Shield of Emeria on this post. Iona is a Legendary Creature, a gorgeous and powerful angel. ManabaseCrafter — the site where you signed up — is devoted to a format of Magic: The Gathering in which you choose a particular Legendary Creature to lead your army. If you get into the game, you could choose Iona, or one of hundreds of others.

You have a beautiful site. I’m bookmarking it, and I can’t wait to check back to see how your exploration progresses.
